As part of the launch of the sustainable Greenwich store in London, IKEA caused quite a splash with their remote-controlled rubbish-clearing boats. The boats use cutting-edge technology, which allows them to collect up to 20kgs of plastic and rubbish at one time. IKEA fans will notice that the design is based on a much-loved product – the SMÅKRYP bath toy. Londoners were invited to take a turn at captaining the boats and help clean waterways off of the Thames. The rubbish collected will be upcycled into a sculpture that will take pride of place at the IKEA Greenwich store.
