Skittles tries to conquer Facebook with a series of lively Rainbow campaigns. Last October they launched Dazzle the Rainbow, a challenge in which fans are asked to bury a man named David Phoenix in a vat of candy. It all ended in an online event. With Update the Rainbow Skittles added a funny live element to the campaign. Facebook fans visiting the Skittles page can post their current status update to a call centre operator. The operators read each update out loud before posting the video back to the user’s Facebook wall. Skittles strategy – generate social media exposure – seems to pay off. They now have over 1.7 million Facebook fans!
