With some clever and creative ideas Guðrið Hojgaard, director of the tourist board Visit Faroe, put the archipelago on the map as tourism destination. Her efforts not only resulted in a few Cannes Lions and acclaim from Politico; the tourist numbers increased 10% a year over the past five years. Now Hojgaard and her team launched a new bold idea: The Faroe Islands will be closed for repairs from 26-28 April. Except for 100 tourist volunteers that will be given free board and lodging in return for helping with practical projects to improve facilities. Since they launched the campaign, thousands of people from all around the world volunteered. Again, a great idea that will create a positive vibe and new Faroe ambassadors.
