Smartphones and bike safety are no match made in heaven. But to prove that mobile technology can also have a positive effect on traffic safety, Vodafone teamed up with the Dutch Cyclist Association. The result is The Smart Jacket, an interactive coat that is connected with a navigation app on bikers’ smartphones. The 300 built-in led lights alert drivers around the cyclist where he’s heading. The Smart Jacket is currently in a prototype phase, after which students of the Delft Technical University will continue to develop it.
